Profile

Ryan Van Lenning has hiked Guatemalan volcanoes, has woken up to the eerie roar of howler monkeys in Belize, has been haunted by death camp crematoriums in Poland, has seen cheesy African pop videos on a bumpy bus ride in Kenya, and once got addicted to baklava in Turkey. As a Bay Area-based freelance writer, he focuses on issues of sustainability, social justice and travel. In addition to being a regular contributor to Matador, he writes for Planetwize and Terrain Magazine. Although he is scuba certified, he wishes he knew how to dance like Mark Twain wrote. If you are so inclined, you can visit his blog at Pull the Root.
