I have a lot of Japanese friends and it has been a regular activity for us to sit by the fireplace or a bonfire (depends on where we are, but there must always be some form of fire in front of us) while having our regular monthly gathering, talking about anything as we try to catch up with each other's lives. The warmth and light from the fire provide a good ambiance and set our mood for the night.
