Because people have such strong reactions when you tell them you dance lambada, it has become customary for us dancers to refer to it simply as "zouk". However, it is clearly not the one-two-step that would be danced in French-speaking Africa, France or other places. Until people accept that this dance is a beautiful dance with technical complexity (versus just the Forbidden Dance) we will have to just keep simplifying the name. I highly recommend that anyone traveling to Buenos Aires check it out. I promise that after you pick your jaw up off of the floor, you will want to learn it! I grew up listening to and dancing to zouk - it's the sexiest dance out there and not many people know about it, unless you grew up in French-speaking Africa or France and its territories.
